I just checked out the lakemaster software on this site. The basic Minnesota package claims to have 101 different lakes. Then I went to the lakemaster HSOforum, and there basic Minnesota package has 250 lakes for the same price. I want to buy it here, do you have the expanded version??

I bought the legend about a month ago. I have been wanting to post the same question. From what I have been able to learn is if you want the map on the GPS, you need to get the Fishing hotspots one that sells for about $90.00. It does not have a lot of maps but displayed right on the GPS is easier to use. If you want more maps with better detail but displays on your computer for gps coordinates download and high quality printouts then you need to get the Lakemaster maps for about $50.00 at 5 foot contours. I think you'll get alot more for your money going with the Lakemaster provided you have a good computer and printer. There are some others but have not looked into them much.

The Garmin Venture will NOT accept mapping detail. It has a 1mb memory for downloading data from the Garmin Mapsource Points of Intrest only. If you want to transfer waypoints off a lake program Lakemaster is about your only option that has a good selection of Lakes.

I was able to download about 20 maps from the topo mapsource. I would guess that covered about 30 mi x 180 mi. It then ran out of memory. Plenty of map for hunting and fishing and what not. The basemap is actually better for traveling cross country because it gives you all the info you need for exits from the interstates. The topo does not give that. The topo has incredible detail but does not do much for lakes.
