Remote start recommendation??

Recommended Posts

I want to get my wife a remote start. I would like to hear some pro's and con's of what people have.

I don't want to break the bank, but also want a decent one. Also let me know where to get these installed.

She has a 2007 Ford Expedition.

I used to sell remote starters for years and almost all the "brands" are made by the same company...Directed Electronics...That being said I was really partial to Clifford they were not to bad on the wallet and had a really good range. Some of them also have remotes with a display like a 2 way pager to let you know if the car started or not. Be forwarned there will be extra expenses for 99% of vehicals 2000 and newer do to a chip in the keys. Its a security thing(the car wont start unless the key is in the igniton) so there usually is extra parts and labor. Also if you the remote starter to do anything other than start the car it will be extra labor too. IE: if you want it to unlock the doors, or pop the rear hatch etc... otherwise your carrying around two key fobs one to start the truck and another to lock/unlock...

Had a Viper installed in the wife's Highlander last fall and definitely would recommend them. Had a Viper in a previous car as well and never had any issues. The two way remotes are nice so I would go that route if the bank allows. The remote will let you know if the car started or not, instead of having to actually look at it. It does drain the batteries in the remote faster......but it's worth it IMO.
