herefish101 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Share Posted June 7, 2010 The first thing you said was"it has spark, but the plugs are dry".....sounds to me like a fuel issue, maybe the fuel pump. It is just a diaphram that wears out and gets a hole in it.....no fuel to the plugs. At least my Evinrude did that once, and left me 3 miles from my truck. I had a minor fuel issue that i dealt with already, now the problem is no spark. I went through a test procedure and it's pointing towards the preamp. thanks though. boatfixer Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 There is no test for the preamp. You test everything around it and if everything checks out, its the preamp. By touch the wire to ground, you are essentially replacing the preamp. Since the preamp is "upstream" of the the CDI and coil and you got it to spark, those 2 are obviously functioning.
