Hello all:

I went morel hunting the other day and found a few large morels with that were darker than the others and the structure looked more open. A picture is attached. The first three are the big morels, the last one -- on the right -- is like the other morels found. Are the big morels the black ones? Are they a little rotten?

not rotten just very mature and past their prime Still edible once you see the white mold or if they are almost black and wilted they are shot. Black morels are alot more common up north and look a little different then greys or yellows----those look to be yellows
