MIL on code 0410

Recommended Posts

Can someone help me. I have a 2005 GMC Envoy 4.2 6 cyl. My MIL came on a while ago. I cleared it and 2 trips later it came back on I think a total of three times. I have cleaned both body grounds to the frame under the driver side. By the way the code is P0410 Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction,

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Two things that commonly go bad on these. The air pump located under the vehicle under where the DRIVER seat should be and the switching valve which is located on the passenger side of the motor above the exhaust manifold. It has a large plastic hose attached to it.

The first hing to do is turn the key on. You should hear the air pump running. The next step is to remove the plastic hose from the switching valve and see if air comes out when the pump comes on. make sure you stay clear of the hose as they are known to accumulate water and you can get a shower. Next is to check the switching valve. Unplug the two pin connector and supply your own power and ground to the valve. You should hear it click. If it doesn't replace it. More often than not it is the switching valve.

I removed the air pump and hooked up 12 volts and nothing so I am assuming thats the problem. I have not checked the valve yet because I will have to remove it to apply 12 volts. So I will wait until I replace the pump.

Thanks again.
