IAFishhawk
I have an on-board battery charger in my boat, it is a 2 bank 12 volt 10 amp charger. The charger is tied to my 24 volt bow mount trolling motor. My question is, should I have a battery disconnect switch to separate the two batteries when charging, or is it alright to leave it as is and charge the batteries as a 24 volt system with a 12 volt charger? CRFan1
It should be wired so that each bank charges its own battery battery (5 amps each) so you should be fine as is. There should be specific wiring instructions in the charger manual. I have a three bank charger - 2 trolling motor batteries and the cranking battery and there is no need for a battery disconnect. marine_man
As long as the wires for each bank are wired to one battery only(and not mixed & matched) you should be just fine.marine_man
