I need to get from International Falls airport to meet friends at Namakan. Is it possible to go by water from Namakan to IF? Would it be better to meet at Ash River or should they just drive to the airport?

Yes you can get from Ifalls to Namakan, but it is a LONG boat ride. Plus they would need to portage around kettle falls at the hotel ($25 i think last year)
By long I mean it is probably close to 45 miles by water from kettle falls hotel to the resorts east of I'falls. Plus there is some big water out there and it can get very rough, not to mention there are a FEW rocks along the way. And depending on where they are on Namakan (it is @14 miles from ash river to kettle falls and @20 from the east end) it could be a long prospect even in decent weather. You are talking about a 60+ mile ride one way to pick you up in a boat.
I would suggest some one just driving up and picking you up at the airport, would be far easier and quicker.
