sjc
I have an evinride 15hp tiller model e15rlere that was over heated last summer. the mechanicals( compression etc) check out ok but im having trouble with the ignition system, intermitent or no spark. the people ive talked to have suggested that the power pack may be bad, is it common for the power pack to fail when overheated? is there any way to test the power pack?any other ignition components i should be checking?thanks
boatfixer
Yes they can and do fail. There is no test for the pack itself, you just have to test the other ignition components around it. Coils, stator and sensor coils.
sjc
How do I check the stator and sensor coils? thanks scott
boatfixer
Check with an ohmmeterFor the charge coil between the brown and brown/yellow you should have 450-600 ohmsFor the sensor coil between the black/white and white/black you should have around 40 ohms ( I think its blk/wht and wht/blk on that one). Basically what you will be looking for is the harness coming from under the flywheel.
