LegattoAD
So... I picked up the boat from storage yesterday. Got the motor ready to go for the season and wanted to investigate an issue I had on my last outing in which my live well would drain on its own, either while making a run or when just sitting still (very distressful for the bass). Filled the live well with water yesterday and sure enough you could hear coming out of the drain as fast as the water went in. The valve was "shut", I checked twice. Is this a common issue? My rig was brand new last year so I found it kind of odd. Any fixes that wouldn't involve major surgery or a trip to the shop? Thanks! marine_man
What kind of boat do you have? Does it have the livewell controls by the console? If it's not some sort of plug system, you either need to adjust your valve (which is pretty straight forward once you find them) or need to replace the valve. What kind of boat do you have?marine_man
LegattoAD
Thanks MM.It's an Alumacraft Navigator. It does have a remote drain switch on the port side just behind the console.
marine_man
Unfortunately I'm not as familiar with Alumacrafts as Lunds... but, I would look for the drain valves and disconnect the control cable and see if you can manually keep it from leaking by adjusting the position of the arm. If so, adjust it so it holds water, then re-install your cable and adjust it.If you can't adjust it to a position that keeps it from draining it's time for a new valve. On Lund's the valve is under a panel near the step up to the front deck or just in front of the battery compartment.marine_man
walleyemaniac
My buddy had this problem. The arm was moving but the ball inside the valve wasn't. Had to take the hose off to find the problem, looked ok from the outside. Probably a bad valve.
