Humminbird thru-hull transducer

I have a ranger 521 Comanche and I am going to install a through the hull mount transducer on it. We had the Elite B.A.S.S. Pros in Michigan at Lake St Clair so I went to a weigh-In. While there i had the privilege of speaking to one of the hummingbird reps. As it turned out he had a ranger, different model then mine but the back of the boat was about the same. He had the though hull mount and it was a very strong and clean install. It had been on that boat for almost 2 years. The biggest problem he said was that you lose a little of the side imaging far out and on the upper part of the water coulomb because the bottom of the boat interferes with it. That would be an extreme situation like a shallow long dock you might be trying to look under. He had not experienced any problems. I was told if I did mount it that way to move it to the back as far as possible and go on either side of the motor not directly in line with it. I am in the process of sending my transducer that came with my unit back to hummingbird to trade for the through hull mount. I just don't like the outside mountings that are available and all the wires are now inside the boat. (just have to make sure you come through in area where there is no interference)

Good luck
