How to replace lower unit..Help please

I had the misfortune of hitting a rock this weekend and it cracked the lower unit. The problem is I have all the bolts loose but the shift linkage wont come out. How do I disconnect the shift linkage on a 1993 60 HP johnson. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

look for a access hole mid way between the prop and the power head. There is a coupler that joins the rod's.

Not on the bigger HP motors, I have seen that style on the 25 Hp motor. I found out on this motor you have to take the linkage off below the motor but it is realy tough to see the bolt.

Go to you're local library and check out one of several repair manuals. They are published different companies and all are good. Nothing like a picture and instructions for you're exact model.
