T1i or 50D ?

Recommended Posts

Going back and forth on this one. Want to get a new setup, having only point and shoot digital recently. Before that I had an Canon AE1. Does anybody have the T1i and I guess my question is how much do you use the Video option, and with the right software can you capture a still frame for printing off the video. I like the ability with the 6 FPS versus the 3 FPS for sporting events. I would be using this camera for general use, family pictures, etc.. and want to start experimenting with wildlife photos. Especially interested in capturing birds in flight type.

When you are talking BIF and sports, the burst rate alone is enough to push down the scales in the direction of the 50D.

Can't comment on the single video frame/print issue since I don't have experience with that.

You're also going to want a good long zoom lens that doubles for sports and BIF. If you're planning on shooting indoor sports without a flash, an f2.8 lens like the Canon 70-200 f2.8L is in order. If you are planning on shooting outdoor sports to go along with the bird photography, a "slower" aperture lens like the Canon 100-400L IS will serve you well for both types of shooting. IMO, the 70-200 is not enough focal length for most BIF work.
