llee873
Does anyone know of a musky rod that is 8' or taller, heavy action or larger, and a 2 piece? I want a rod that would handle larger bucktails, regular bulldawgs, and other lures that move a lot of water. I do a lot of traveling so a 2-piece is a must. Thanks
goblueM
call up Thorne Brothers or do a google search. they're out there, i've seen them occasionally
10,000 Casts
the longest that I have seen is a 7'H St. Croix Premier 2 piece. A custom rod is probably your only choice and I'm not sure if they make 8' 2 piece blanks.
JimBuck
Look into Okuma's EVX rods. I think they range from H-XXH with lengths from 8'6" - 9'3". I own a few Okuma's for swimbaits and light bucks and love em'. I don't have experience with the EVX but have heard good things.
muskydeceiver
I second JimBuck in that you may want to look at the telescoping rods. I have some and they go in my car very well when I am heading to fish with someone else. First one I got was an 8' Tica (think it reduces to 6' 6", but I am not sure) and I have really liked it. Caught a few feesh on it and haven't had any issues. I have the Okuma 9'3" XH EVX and it will fit in my car as well.
llee873
Will the EVx rods work with double cowgirls?
hunter991
They are out there, but man would i hate to catch my personal best on a 2 piece and have it fail. The okuma EVX telescop down to 7' in the 8'6". I can fit that in just about any car i have.

brad coin
if theres a 2 pc cowgirl capable 8ft-9ft rod out there Ive yet to find it!!!Ive already been to The Chicago and Milw muskie shows this yearthere are 2 pc musky rods over 8ft but they are more medium action and flex bad on figure 8's with cowgirls,,,the telescopic rods are nice but still not has compact and easy to tote has a 2 pcKeith at professional edge custom rods makes a nice 8 1/2 ft diamondback M/H action 2 pc, I own one it would work with reular/medium dawgs but magnums and double 10 blades make it flew/fatigue, Its nice in 2pc your not stabbing the tip into walls or the ground causing nicks in the tip top,,,a 2 pc 9ft XH-XXH is needed in this market
goblueM
yeah i run into that problem with my long rod - always hitting the ceiling in the basement or garage with it. I did manage to fit my 8 foot rod into a Toyota Tercel 2-door, so I know that most everybody should be able to fit an 8 foot rod in their car! mattrd
I know that B.P.S. has 2 peice muskie rods, but I don't know if they're capable of handling the cowgirls. It's something to check out though.
brad coin
mattrdyeah,,been there-done that,,,the BPS rods are nice for medium bucktails but flex too much on double tens they will work but the rod will really bow on 8's
mainbutter
A musky fisher friend of mine had a couple of 2 piece musky rods from BPS.. I believe they were the Pete Maina series musky rods??I tossed mag dawgs and pulled DCGs no problem. I think they were ~8 foot? They MIGHT have been 7'6'' or somewhere in between, but I think they were 8.I liked 'em better than any St. Croix musky rod I've ever used, they just felt RIGHT.Unfortunately they are no longer produced?? I know my friend picked 'em up on the cheap during clearance.
Esox_Magnum
I had a Mania rod a couple years ago, 8'6" 2 peice, cost me maybe the biggest fish I have ever been lucky enough to get hooks into. Not enough backbone to effectivly set the hooks on a med long cast. My vote would be for a Tackle Industries rod, only around $100 but built like a $300 rod. Okumas make a telescoping rod and they also get good reveiws.
llee873
Thanks guys for your input. I did find one that is marketed for the european market. It is a 2 piece 8' Heavy action rated for 2-10oz. lures. This should work for what I am want.
