Guest
I am looking for suggestions for a lake in western MN for a week's June smallmouth fishing. I am from out of state and unfamiliar with Minnesota lakes. I would like to know a lake where I can camp and take my boat. I have a 13 year old son, so quantity is probably more important than quality.
trophyhunter
Green Lake by spicer.(willmar) Has a lot of smallmouth and big ones too. There is campround on the north side of the lake. County park # 5 I believe. I have fished the lake in August for smallmouth and done very well. The only thing is it is all catch and release. Good luck
ASTRO
Green lake is a very good lake for smallmouth. You can keep any bass under 14". ASTRO
OLY
Minnewaska south of Alexandria is an amazing smallmouth and largemouth lake. My BASS club holds its annual out of town tournament on Minnewaska we used to vote on were we would go but the last five years we have almost made it a rule that we will be going to Minnewaska. It is that good. I have a replica of a 5.13lb smally I caught in 98. the first year we fished a guy got a 7.2lb largemouth it was truly amazing. The numbers are also good for the young guy. You can pretty much just go and through spinnerbaits in the reeds and around docks and catch aton of bass and northerns. There is a great campground across the street from the access in glenwood. the camp is called barsness camp and it has electric hookups and a brand new bathroom and showers. I strongly reccomend this lake to everyone. Good Luck were ever you go!
