Summertime Pout

Hey everyone-
Why is it that when fishing wintertime walleyes, in the evening's most prime time, that fat red line on the Vexilar always has a good chance of being a pout? And in the summer, I've yet to see or catch one in over two decades of serious fishing, both shallow an deep? Feedback?

Pout spawn in the winter, bringing them up from their normal DEEP haunts. They can be caught in the summer, you just have to fish them real deep.
