tearin' lips
Hey guys...I hunt the area fields frequently up near Rocky Point, but have never hunted the water of Lake of the Woods. Just wondering if anyone in here has. Here's my question. Is there any place to set diver spreads and wade out? I have a 18' boat that will get me to these spots. I have been looking on Google Earth, It looks like there are sand bars just out of swift ditch. Are those wadeable, or how boat just east of Rocky Point...I see chunks of land there on the map. I am more leaning towards swift ditch, so any information on that area would be helpful! Also is Pine/Curry Island huntable? Thanks in advance guys. magnum mike
There are several islands of bull rushes just inside Pine Island. They all can be good depneding on the wind and teh number of ducks on the south shore. One of the best spots we have hunted is very close to the winter road crossing area of Pine Island. There is a small pond on the island and for some reason it holds ducks.
swedishpimple
Swift Ditch is a unique area. It is almost like a barrier reef between the shore and the "Big Water". I have had good numbers of geese fly over in the past too.I prefer hunting the Canadian side this time of year with very few decoys needed. We use 21' boats up in these waters. If the wind is right you can get by with much smaller boats out of Swift. If the wind is out of the North or NW or NE it can be very challenging.
