First Aid tips?

So me and my GSP went out for a little Pheasant hunt yesterday morning, didn't see a bird. When we got back, though, I noticed a small bit of blood on my back car seat so I checked him over thinking he cut hit paw or something. Only then did I notice he had rougly a pinkie-sized flap of skin with flesh showing on his front leg! I'm assuming it's from barbed wire, so I cleaned it out as best as I could with peroxide and covered the area with EMT gel and wrapped it in gauze and tape. The problem is he is a dog and like all dogs, WON'T leave it alone...what do you guys go? It doesn't seem infected and I've been keeping him inside as much as possible...Any suggestions?
