kerryd15
When did most motors go to electronic ignition? Did boat motors ever really have Points? When was the major change over to fuel injection?Searching for my first boat, had a motorcycle with points and nothing but problems. Thinking the fuel injection would result in better performance- running and starting. Did the first fuel injected models have a lot of issues? Can't afford new and don't want to buy a headache. thanks.
marine_man
I have no idea when they moved to a solid state ignition, but most "modern" outboards don't have points...Fuel injection started showing up around the mid to late 90's.. If you can afford it, I'd try and get a Fuel Injected motor from the early 00's at the earliest... most manufacturers had their bugs worked out by then.marine_man
