Misfiring Ranger

Recommended Posts

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger, and the other day it started running rough and the check engine light came on. So I took it to the local auto parts store and plugged it in to the computer thing and it said misfire on cylinders 1 and 6. I am putting new plug wires on since I put new plugs in last fall and am wondering will the check engine light shut off or do I need to do something special to get rid of it?

Thanks

CMW

If that takes care of the misfire than there will be a number of key cycles without a fault before it turns itself off. 4wanderingeyes, Shackbash, or another more in depth ford guru will be able to shed a little more light.

The code will continue to be stored until it is cleared with a scan tool.

And by the way welcome to FM, HSO, & Iceleaders cmw!
