LovenLifeGuy
I hunt a small slough west of the cities on opener and am woundering if I should leave the hound at home. With that dog dieing earlier in sept im just a little concerned. What do you all think. Is this cool and wet weather good enough to relieve my concerns. Thanks
bigtwin
From what I've read, blue-green algae is not always toxic but in the case on Fox Lake in Martin County unfortunately it was. Cooler temperatures and rain should help detoxify any of the cyanobacteria that could be in the wetland. If the pond is slimy green and/or you can see a blueish color along the shoreline I would be cautious. At any rate, I would make sure you have a towel or something along to wipe your dog off after it has been in the water since most deaths occur from ingestion. I don't blame you for being nervous. swany25
With all this rain and wind it should be fine. Just look the water over and you will definatley be able to tell if the algae is present. Good luck!
icehousebob
One smart thing to do also is to bring drinking water from home for your dog. If you keep them hydrated, they're less likely to drink pond water.
LovenLifeGuy
I decided to leave him home to be safe. The water looked fine but it didnt matter anyway, the hunting was poor.
