Set n Hooks
I borrow some decoys from my uncle for this weekend. But they were a little beat up.. So I repainted some heads.. Repainted vs. Unpainted (They're ALL painted now.) Geese Just goes to show how a little bit of extra time makes your decoys look a heck of alot nicer looking. dan z
I repaint the a##es and heads on my goose decoys every year, and trust me they see that white from a long ways away! look at a flock in the feild or water if thier butts are facing you thats all you see. I leave the mallards alone. I however do paint the divers when need be.
lawdog
They look good, except I'm a little concerned about the shine/reflection. Decoys should be painted with an extremely flat finish to avoid being too shiny on the water... I also won't paint over the eyes on mine for what its worth. broken_line
this weekend take some mud and slather it all over the deks..then rinse it off..kinda dulls the shiny paint of new or repainted deks
shnelson
Nice work!broken line has some good advice - I would definitely try to dull out the shine and maybe tone back some of the green, keeping in mind that most mallard drakes coming out of their molt don't have vibrant green heads till after opening weekend. Later in the season they should be fine as long as the shine is gone (I think most of the shine we are seeing is because some of the heads are still wet?). french_lake_kid
Ya hunting over hens or the old unpainted ones might be best believe it or not for this first couple weeks but they look good, may be shiny from the camera flash 2...
