cutter08
I don't know about 3 guys, allot of decoys, 13ft tin can, and allot of wind should all be in the same sentence. Sounds like trouble to me.But to answer your question i just use the store bought collapsible ones for are 16 ft boat. We had an old wooden one that was my grampa's. And that worked good for are old 14 ft boat. I think it was made out of an old railing
nate larson
Rich-mar makes some really nice push poles.
bigdog
I make them out of the longest piece of closet rod I can find. Not very hard to sand, paint and put a foot on. Never tried pushing a boat with 3 guys, etc, etc.
Scott M
I had the push pole conundrum but ultimately went back to the wooden push pole. I bought a 13' closet rod for twelve bucks, tapered the end to fit the duck foot back on, and bolted it on tight. We also just got a push pole in at work, and I was looking a little closer at it. It was 45 bucks for the whole kit and caboodle and it seemed kinda bulka...I would worry if I dropped it. Last weekend for the youth opener my dog just about knocked it in the water a couple times. I think I made the right decision going with the wooden closet rod. However, if you're asking about propelling a boat exclusively by a push pole, I guess it depends on waht the situation is. I brought along an electric motor, a set of oars, and the push pole last weekend. I had to travel 1/2 a mile each way. The water depth was variable from about 4" of water to 3' of water. If I wasn't going very far or I knew it was all too shallow to use oars or the motor I could probably make it with just the push pole, even with all the gear and people in the boat...Just don't overexert and break it or its a long walk in. broken_line
i would use a trolling motor but this is on a WMA... what if im outside of the WMA boundarie? half of the slough is owned by the state and the other is by private.. but the private side has bullrishes that stick 20 feet out and are submerged..
