  1. My two cents about Lowrance Electronics Service: Its the worst both calling and e-mailing........I have called and e-mailed a lot of other retailers throughout the years and Lowrance is, unquestionably, the worst...... However, the Lowrance Color Expedition GPS is the best (with the Lakemaster chip)...... Service vs Product - you have to decide...........
  2. I have been to this event several times. I think it is good for the following reasons and I usually attend all the days: There are a lot of knowledgeable guides that you can ask questions about fishing and fishing times of the year, e.g., Chippewa Flowage, Leeck, Mille Lac, et al........ Two, you can get some good deals on equipment that you cannot find any other time of the year (checkout landing nets); third, the seminars are great (get a schedule of speakers ahead of time)...... fourth, the b.s., about musky fishing at this time of the year is hard to find elsewhere.... If you have a plan - a 3 hour trip may be worth it....
  3. Definitly need to put a drop or two of oil on the leather - the leather will dry-out for various reasons....
  4. Caught my biggest on #7 silver/black shallow shad rap. Best lure this year #5,#7 firetiger shallow shad rap run 100 feet on 10/4 fireline.........hope these specifics help since you don't get them too often on these forums....oh ya, Mille Lacs.
  5. THANKS FOR THE HELP - I WILL TRY TO PUMP THE OIL 'BULB' NEXT TIME AT IDLE....I GET THE IDEA FROM THOSE WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A 'BAD WATER IMPELLER' - THAT WHEN THE MOTOR IS 'IDLING' IT IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH WATER - AND WHEN IT IS RUNNING WIDE OPEN THE MOTOR IS GETTING ENOUGH WATER...THANKS
  6. I have a 60HP,oil injected, Evinrude (mid 1980's), tiller. The alarm goes off unpredictably - but mainly when the motor is idling and on tilt (boat ramp for example) - any suggestions to cure this problem? Thanks.
  7. Check the prices at Battery City - off Broadway in Mpls...great prices, great advice.........
  8. HELLO. HAD A PROBLEM LAST SEASON WITH THE PUSHBUTTON START ON THIS MOTOR...PUSH IN THE BUTTON (TO START) AND NOTHING (GOOD BATTERY) - THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULD BE OK AND BE OK FOR THE REST OF THE DAY (I BELIEVE IT IS THE ORIGNAL STARTER ON THE MOTOR)...ANYONE ELSE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM...ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN BOAT IS LAUNCHED, NEVER AFTER...
  9. Thanks for the reports...sounds like bass/panfish lakes...
  10. aNYONE FISH THIS LAKE THIS WINTER?? COMMENTS? SPECIES. THANKS
  11. I live in the White Bear Lake area and fish sunfish in the Chisago lakes area, my point is this, find a lake where sunfish are biting. It shouldn't be that difficult. Keep moving. This year I fish only one hole and keep two/three rods set-up with different sunfish lures...if you find the sunfish, one rod is more than enough...second, think small and euro-larvae - white only....2lb test line....recently I haven't used the Vexilar because it slows me down, the sunfish are on the bottom and I can fish the water column up-and down....good luck and stay very, very light....
  12. Any help out there on adapting the horizontal Marcum to vertical ? Black tape......et al.....thanks.
  13. What brand of 2lb line were you using??......thanks
  14. Thanks, that helps a lot...it sounds like the key is to put the marker, knot, plastic, et al., near the reel....
  15. While fishing for sunfish w/ 2lb line, I like to mark bottom someway. Tried bobber stops (string) and the smallish rubber ones. The 'string' stops are too bulky and the rubber stops slip when you catch a 'gill. Any suggestions? Thanks
  16. I won't saw much but try an 8 foot rod and begin the figure 8 - way out, not next to the boat........if you see them speed it up.....you can't believe how fast they can move......almost trying to take it away from them...
  17. Good Show. Last year I attended all days and scheduled everything for the seminars. You can buy fishing lures and talk anywhere but the seminars are really good. The group also went to a swimming pool and tried out a few of the lures, et al...I think it is better than the Blaine show later in the year...
  18. Bone unproductive on Sun 11-14. Water 42 degrees. Fihed gliders, rubber shad, schumway, and glo-mogambo w/ 1/2 oz... Beware of the Dare.
  19. Fished Bone on Sat. 11-06, 9 to 2:30. One very small fish and one follow on Musky Mike's black neon 6" crawfish w/ 1/2oz red head jig, also fished some gliders; didn't fish bucktails. Lots of bobber-guys, but didn't see anyone with a fish-on...Looking for some 1/4oz musky jigs.....water 49.
  20. Look up Battery City in the yellow pages, they are off Broadway in Mpls (2nd or 3rd Ave/St.). Great battery prices They sell Trojan batteries and an off-brand battery that is better and less costly than Trojan...weight rules with trolling batteries....good luck
  21. Bone Report. Fished Sunday, Oct 24 from 9 to 4pm. Two follows on small black bulldog. Bucktails not working, although I was told black /orange bucktail was good previous weekend. 8 boats at access on Sunday morning. Lots of sucker minnow guys out. I don't think early morning fishing is good anymore, unlike summer. Water 52 degrees.
  22. SJB ....thanks for all the help..........
  23. On 9-14-04, I noticed Gander Mtn. guide series musky rods were $10 off...prices range from $49 to $79 (before discount)...should be good enough to get started musky fishing............
  24. Where do you guys launch your boats? AND, any camping around there? THANKS
