Cut pieces into 2 inch cubes. put them in a cup of coke for half day. Then rap in pieces of bacon. Then sprinkle brown sugar on them. Then cook in oven for 20 min at 300Deg. Then put in crock pot for a hr and serve!! Perfect finger food!! -

Make it a lottery to draw all tags and moved season back two weeks. -
I'm with Greybeard on this one.. More often then not I find that when jakes come in with the gobblers they pay more attention to the jakes then the hen. Over the years now I have quit putting out a decoy and I have had better results cause I feel that once they see the hen they stop lookin, and so they hang up out side of bow range more often then not.

Laker I by no means call my self an expert but I am a good turkey hunter LOL!! I have found that the only time I get a bird to come in to the call is. A) Late morning after the hens go to nest. Find a bachelor group of gobblers either in the tree or else where. C) Or it is when all the moons align, and the birds are not afraid to answer. I have hunted the black hills and western parts of this great state of SD. And I have had great luck every year.. Not kidding either when I say that I have killed a bird every year for the last ten seasons. And yes I do get to go more than most so that does help when the weather or birds are not in the mood. But I always prove to my hunting companions that with patients and a lot of luck anyone can do it. My daughter is going to go with me next year and she is already trying to out do my calling in the garage, and to be honest I believe she is better already!!! Good luck guys and don't give up calling it will work, at least most of the time.

Quick survey of my own curiosity on "point restriction"
Thunderchicken replied to VMS's topic in Archery - Bowhunting
Yes James there is no imaginary line and the midwest as a whole has some of if not the best there is to offer as far as whitetail hunting. But we both have a wildlife division that is doing things totally different. And from where I have hunted and where my extended family has and still is hunting in MN things are not looking real good and haven't for quit some time. -

I dont know if APR is the answer to this problem. I believe there is more to it than just passing on the smaller bucks so there are bigger in the future. The genetices in most of the state are horrible, along with lack of animals too. I am originaly from MN and hunted deer there 12 plus years, up north and in western parts of the state. I now live in SD and we don't gun hunt the eastern part until the third weekend, Iowa doesnt hunt until Dec. I believe. My point is this if the more mature bucks had a chance to or better chance to mate a few times instead of being shot right away could and I believe doese make a differance in your deer herd quality. The quality of deer I see coming out of SD in the past 16 years has me thinking that the DNR over her know something!!! Look at Iowa to!! Along with moving it back if there was a loto for the whole state things could only get better too. There is just to dang many people hunting in MN to just let everyone have a chance at shooting a buck. Over here in SD I get a buck tag every other year east river and every year west river. I hunt public only, never hunted private. I hated it at first being from MN but as the years went on I noticed that even though there was a lot of hunting pressure I still was seeing 3-5 year old bucks every year. Maybe didnt shoot one but still seen them.I don't know there just has to be something to it!! Just my opinion here guys! Im no expert by any length of the emagination but only know what I see and do. Good luck this year and always be safe!!! -
The times I have hunted late season have almost been the most exciting. Leave the decoy at home is my suggestion, then run and gun with a blind for bow hunting. Hunt spots u have seen birds frequent for a couple of hours at a time. Hunt all day!! I killed some dandies around lunch time near a stock pond in western SD. If u r lucky enough to hear some birds get on them fast. One other note if u r lucky enough to know where they r roosting go back there in the afternoon if u don't kill him in the morninng, u will be surprised to know that the toms come back looking for that last lonely hen every now and then. As for broadheads, use what ever u shoot the best. But make sure that it will not pass through the bird. They can and will run a long ways with out an arrow hanging out of them. JMO!! Good luck! Man I can't wait for April!! Thunder

I second the conduit. I have also used a piece of square aluminum tubing that I use if I take the boat. -
I have shot the 2 blade heads for two years now and have had no problems. I shot three turkeys in one sit this spring with them so I know that the noise is not a problem for them. And like Kyle said unless it is a dead calm morning and it is a long shot the deer is not going to hear it coming anyway.

The mule population in the hills it's self is low. The outer edges is where they roam. There are some public lands in the Fall River County area that hold good numbers of Mule's but to get a good one you will have to walk your butt off!
-
The other reason I hunt in a ways from the field is that most of the people hunting the public land that I hunt walk the edges of the fields to and from thier stands. Thus leaving a lot of unwanted oders, so I just want to make sure no one is walking by my stand.

Mutha is right! I am originally from Appleton moved to SD in 95 for my job. But when I wass back home LQP was nothing compared to Big Stone area. I wouldn't head out that way until the first good cold snap hits and then go. THe northern flights of mallards will be coming down then too and if you find a farmer that will let you hunt his field it will be nothing short of fantastic. I hunted an area east of Ortonvile, north or Odessa, and west or Artichoke lake ( just north and east a little of Appleton). This area hold a lot of ponds, some private and some public that roost a lot of birds through out the year. If that doesn't work out for you this year and next year you really want to shoot some birds you look me up over here in SD and I will personally hook you up with some of the best goose and duck hunting you will ever see. -
I agree with Harvey. I hunt a couple of trails about 50 to 75 yards off the inside corners of field edges. It seams to me that the bucks will wait just inside the trees until last light due to hunting pressure. Only reason I feel that this is the case is I actually watched a fork horn three years ago stand under me and watch another hunter get out of his stand right at sundown and walk out to the raod. That buck stood there untill for what seamed like forever. As you can guess I hunt a lot of public land and that might be the only reason the deer act like they do here. JMO!

About the same amount of trips for me, I just take more people along now though. -
Here is the real question " If he had guides tracking this bull why then did it take 13 days to finally kill him. "

I have a Marlin 30-30 that has never failed me. I also have a Rem. 700 in .270 cal. that is a dream to shoot and is now very accurate after re-bedding the barrel. It would shoot great groups if the weather was cooler but if it was a bit warm out I would get fliers. After bedding the barrel is now free floating and shoots 1 1/2 inch groups out to 200 yds. -
Well you could also look at it this way too. If I were to sit down and keep track of all the gas money I spend every time I head to the woods to bow hunt in my home state I would bet that I pay a pretty price for the game I harvest. That game I harvest might only be a doe too some years. So the price to go over to Iowa and harvest a monster verses to stay in my home state and travel to my hunting grounds 15 to 20 times a year and maybe shoot a lesser deer in some peoples eyes is almost a wash. Like I always tell the wife a person must pay to play!

You probably got your self some kind of hybred. Over here in SD we have them all over. The easterns breed with either the rio's or a marriems. I got photos of some birds we have gotten out in the western part of the state and the range in color is typical.
-
When I fish the big MO over here in SD pulling lindy's I use at least 1 to 1 1/2 oz. bouncers to keep them as vetical as possible. Also going into the current with spinners you can get away with moving slower because the current is spinning the blade for you. This way you can cover some ground to by zig zagging as you go up stream.
