VHF Radio

I just picked up a Apelco VHF8500 radio for my boat and am looking for some advice on mounting. I have a Alumacraft 165CS and am considering mounting the antenna base next to the windsheild and putting the radio under the dash. Anything else I should watch for?

If you cut the coax down, make sure its atleast 3 feet from the antenna to the radio.

Leave unused coax attached, but coiled up. Also make sure you don't put the speaker in such a position underneath that you can't hear what the radio receives. Mount it so you can hear it.
