Question

I just bought the FL-18, which is very cool and am wanting to know how to tell the difference between perch and walleye. Are walleye thicker red bars or not or can you even really see the difference?? Thanks

Well, about the best way is to get them up the hole.

Beyond that, it is all guess work. You can make and educated guess, depending on what the trend has been, but still, it is a guess?

All you can make is an educated guess. In most cases you will not be able to tell the difference between a walleye and a perch by the size of the bip. One thing you may notice about small perch is that they dart around more. They will move up to your bait quickly investigate it, maybe take a peck and dart right back down to the bottom. Walleyes may move up quickly if they are feeding aggressively, but compared to the smaller perch they will move a little slower. They will move up and grab your bait or stare at it and decide they don't want it unless you can convince them to eat it. They seem to move away slower, either to the side or back down to the bottom when compared to smaller perch. Bigger perch seem to act more like walleyes. Jumbo perch are a little more secure of their surroundings and don't have to dart around as much as the small perch out of fear of getting eaten.
