So my buddy is headed out there next week for work. Figured I'd tag along and bring the fish rod. Anyone have any areas/lakes/rivers to check out? Nightspots and tourist attractions work too. Thanks for the help.

I go to school just south of Casper in Laramie so I fish this area quite a bit. The Grey Reef tailwater section of the North Platte is one of the top trout waters in the entire country. Check out Platte River Fly Shop's online fishing report, its updated pretty often and stop in there, they will get everything you need and point you in the right direction. They also have a map of all the public access points for Grey Reef on their HSOforum. Click on the Grey Reef fishing report and its under there called Bureau Land Management Float Map. Wading should not be a problem as flows are down to 500cfs for the winter. Miracle Mile is just south of Casper and is another Blue Ribbon fishery and is very popular. Miracle Mile has over seven miles of public fishing. Both these spots hold huge fish in high numbers.

Sam, Thanks for the help. What do you typically use for lures? I'm not really a fly fisherman, but I do have a fly rod (only used once or twice). Think I should stick with the spinning gear or should I take the fly rod too? I just want to enjoy the scenery and if I catch some fish all the better. It's suppose to be nice weather so I'm a little pumped!

I use exclusively flies out here but I know plenty of people that use lures. It seems on this stretch I hear alot about a gold rapala CD5 or CD7. Spinners I'm sure will work too.
