fishwater
If you operate a HDS unit in the wide beam sonar does the unit still transmit the 200khz frequency like the Humminbird units do?
0 norma
Nope, according to the Lowrance web site, 83khz is the wider cone angle, 200 khz is a 12 degree angle, the 83 khz is at about 120 degrees.
0 Rippin_eyes
With the digital technology the standard 200KHZ transducer that we use can either be a 200 or 83 KHZ just by simply selecting which frequency you wish to run.
0 fishwater
Thanks for the input guys. I got of the line with Navico and the Lowrance units only transmit a single frequency (from what I was told by a technical rep.) If this is really true and Lowrance can transmit only 83khz from a 200khz ducer, they are doing a sweet job with their new technologies. I have my fingers crossed this info holds true once I spend the money. I've been victimized by shifting technical specifications after purchase before... I'm pretty sure the Humminbird dual beam plus works in the same way, generating 83khz from a 200khz crystal, but those units transmit 200khz regardless of selected frequency.
