Transducer cord

so last weekend i forgot my puck down the hole when i went to bed. woke up in the morning and it was frozen in the hole. went to chip it out and sneezed and yup cut the cord right in half. havent looked at it much but can that be fixed or do i need to buy a new one? thanks for any info

There are probably 2 wires. Solder each of the wires back together, (put shring wrap on the cable first), then epoxy/shrink that puppy up, maybe add some electrical tape for good measure, and you're golden.

If you splice and heat shrink each wire and heat shrink the cover shielding you may get it to hold up. Maybe, it depends on how gentle you will be with it in the field?

Far from Golden..but if your lucky, it may work for a while. I would budget for a new ducer just the same.

Bring it in to Vexilar. They repaired mine for $15 after our cat chewed through it. Their service dept is really good. My transducer has worked great ever since.

Did the heat shrink tube repair on a trolling motor transducer cable once. Continued to use it for 6 or 7 years. Only repaired it once when I did again what broke it in the first place.

Do be careful with yanking & bending though.

I think I would question the accuracy after soldering the wires. The addition of a different metal in the circuit (solder) may alter the signal a little. By how much I don't know and whether the accuracy would be sifnificantly effected I don't know. Just a thought.

its a marcum lx-5, and i need it in a week i am goin up to canada so i am gonna try the home repair and test it this weekend if it doesnt work ill use a buddies. crossin my fingers and hope it works.

after you solder it and heat shrink it you could always use liquid tape or silicone it

The good heat shrink tubing has sealer in it, and should seal it without goo-ping it up with anything else.
