Deer Lake Near Taylor's Falls

Recommended Posts

I've got our first BASS tourney of the year coming up in mid-May and we are starting the year over in WI on Deer Lake near Taylor's Falls. Does anyone in this forum know anything about that lake that they would be willing to share?

Are there bait shops anywhere around it where a fella could get a map of it?

Thanks for any help you can give.

This is my favorite lake up in that area. If I'm not fishing a tournament, this is where u can find me.

The lake is only around 900 acres, so depending on the size of your club, you might be fishing a lot of used water throughout the day.

The water is extremely clear with a few nice points jutting out here and there. There is also a little slop near the launch and a lot of good submerged vegatation throughout the lake especially at the far east end. The lake features some nice dock fishing, but mid May probably won't have the best dock bite. I caught the largest bass of my life there last summer in August on a 90+ degree day on a bass assasin under a dock.

My favorite lures have been a Bomber Square A, senkos, and bass assasins.

There are a lot of big fish in there, but after the spawn it gets tough to weed through all of the 8-12 dinks.

One other thing I have noticed about this lake is that the fish are very schooly. There have been numerous times where you'll see a bunch chasing baitfish on the surface at around 15 ft. of water. One day last summer,I was throwing some top water in the morning and all of a sudden a school of at least 50 or more swam right in front of the boat. They just kept coming and coming. I grabbed my black/red flake tube and got four or five quality fish in about five minutes and then they were gone.

I have one of those books of Wisconsin Lakes that has a map in it. I know Gander Mtn, Fleet Farm, or Galyans all carry these.

If you want the real secrets (lol), drop me an email: [email protected]

You can get a lake map at St. Croix Outdoors it's right on Hwy 8 just before you turn north on Hwy 35, on the south side of the road. That vending machine has come in handy many a night. Good luck

Luv2senko,
i too like this lake as well, besides the bass there, the muskies get to be surprising as well! Nice structure, and very clean lake. I noticed on the NE side of the lake there are a lot of patches of weeds that you come upon, at least early in the season. Hard to say where exactly they are, they are only noticeable if you get out and prefish. The beds would be aroudn those and also around some of the docks that were in the water at the time.

Exudedude,

How'd your tournament go on Deer Lake? Any insights to share? Waiting to hear from my non-boater partner as to when he is available to pre-fish - may go this weekend to explore it some - got a new fish-finder up front that I need to experiment with before the competition too.

Arealakes have just started to warm up and females are starting very slowly to appear on the beds. If we don't get some warm temps soon we will have a very poor spawn this year; but not to be the voice of doom, things have been improving lately. Water temps are up to mid 50's opposed to last weeks high 40's low 50's. We are looking for thing to start breaking this weekend, with warmer weather predicted and especially warmer lows!!
