I want to replace the wicnches on my wheel house, looking to replace them ob both sides of an 8x20 tandem axle house.

What winch would you guys use as a replacement? I want something reliable with an automatic brake.

lso what solutions if any have you found to keep the salt/sand and slush off the winches when trailering? I hate having to clean them off before lowering the house.

Thanks, SF

Do you have the winches mounted permanent on the house or on the springs? I made mine that mount right on the spring, with a pin through the bolt hole of the spring. With the winches mounted on the springs ables me to use straps or cables, and both can be removed when traveling. I just put them inside the house while traveling, and only have them out when cranking up or down. I figure they should last a lot longer not being out in the elements.
