TIP-UP SETTING PATTERNS OR METHODS?

TDOT

Recommended Posts

Seem to have no luck on my tipup. The only fish that seem to pop the flag are Northern Pike. Not that it's a bad thing. Catch all other fish jigging. Are there diff patterns, or methods for other species, or is just a matter of poking holes and waiting for a pig to swim by?

Tip ups are deadly for walleyes, you can fish many depths on a piece of structure and get dialed in on what depth the fish are most active. The more people (tipups) the better! Try a small (1/8 or so) jig or a plain #6 or #4 hook and a minnow. Set it about 10-12 inches off the bottom. I always tie on a 3-6 foot florocarbon leader to my main tip up line. Many people prefer sucker minnows (larger minnows), I like just a normal fat head. I almost always hook through the tail for that extra action.
