Rust proofing during storage

Has anyone seen those ads for the rust proofing "things" you leave in your gun, or bow case, tackle box, etc? Do they work? Is there a comparible "home remedy" to prevent rust during storage?

Aside from a light coat of the appropriate oil, a disposable diaper (new) makes an excellant dessicant.
