01 Dodge Ram 2500 Overdrive ?

Have 01 Quad cab 4x4 with v8 360.

I have not driven this truck much lately (company truck), but have been in it the last week. When the truck was new,I remember that when the overdrive button is pushed (or turned off) the tranny down shifted and the RPMs went up for better pulling. Now when i drive it, it works on the high RPMs and when i push the button, it is like it drops down into overdrive. Basically it seems like it is working backwards as to what i remember when it was new. Is there a sensor that is bad or could a tech put a sensor in backwards? I'm pretty sure my memory was right on this.

Any thoughts?
