I have a 20 ft pontoon that is rated for up to a 50 hp motor. It has a 2 stroke 2 cyl 40 hp on it and want to upgrade. Is there much differance in performance between 40 and 50 hp? Also, has anyone heard good news/bad news on the bigfoot mercs, are they worth the xtra $$$? Or, will any brand 4 stroke do the job for just recreational pontooning?

Well, 10 hp more will help at times, but probably won't be as noticeable on a pontoon.

High Thrust motors (Whether it be a merc big foot or a T50 yamaha) work well for pontoons where the additional thrust is needed. The achieve the higher thrust via a different lower unit.
