bonefish
I was given an Abu with a 6.3:1 gear ratio. Seems like everyone is using something in the 5's for most things and 4's for the big bucktails. Is there a situation where this gear ratio would be OK or even beneficial?
Spazzums08
I think if you're burning small bucktails and spinnerbaits, and maybe smaller plastics. Basically for the small stuff, and that's it.
Rebel9921
Bone... that reel definitely wouldnt last a long time reeling those big bladed bucktails... unless its a Shimano Trinidad or a Diawa Saltist (both saltwater non-levelwind reels)... Like Spaz said... it'll do good for small 'tails and spinners... micro-dawgs could be a possibility... small jerkbaits or gliders would work too... JRedig
Out of 4 reels for muskie fishing, two of mine are in that range. 6.2:1 and I think I use them more than anything else! -jeff
10,000 Casts
It would be fine for any topwaters. I like mine for big buzz baits like Buggermans. Would be fine for jerk-bait baits too. And small spinners like others said.
RK
Hiya - High speed reels are great for jerkbaits and walk the dog baits where you need to pick up slack fast but there isn't much hard pulling. Good for any topwaters too really. Cheers,Rob Kimm
Nick Kuhn
Any sized willow blade spinnerbait/bucktail you should be alright on. It's those big colorado blades that'll give you trouble.

Esox_Magnum
I pulled DC-10's on a Abu 6600 Rocket 6:3:1 last fall ( no choice all I had) And it worked as well at seasons end as it ever had. Luckily I sold it so I'm no longer forced to use Abu's LOL
bubs
what burns the high speed gears out of the c4's is the anti-backlash presure. It is plastic and wears out quickly when you put alot of presure on it for the heavy baits. the reels work for people that don't use it. they burn the gears out if you do. when it wears the gear on the shaft will be able to shift back and forth. I replace the plastic part at least once a year and have two gears go bad over 10 years. one went with a 50" on the end. line could go out just not in, hand landing sucked but I got the fish and have the gears with the pict of the fish.
