Ugly Stick Flathead Rods

Hey guys, I decided to go baitcaster because I want the clicker, between regular 8 MH Ugly Stick cat rod, and a 8 MH Ugly Stick Glow Cat rod (the whole rod glows), which would you choose? The Glow is a bit thicker, but has a slower taper/less backbone, whereas the regular one has a faster taper, and more backbone. Any experience with either of these?

Spazzums: It depends on your situation. Both rods have their uses. In my experience the phosphorous they use in the glow rod eventually wears off and it becomes just another rod. Now this doesn't mean it is not a good rod. Just don't think that 10 years from now the rod is going to keep glowing. i have fished with the regular 8 MH rod for the last few years and I like it. I also have an old White Rhino rod that also works very well for Flatheads.

For myself and I am NOT you and may not fish the situations you do/ I think I would stick with the old tried and true regular 8 myself. Not to say anything bad about the Glow Stik. I just like a bit more backbone in a rod in case you ever hit that once in a life time fish.

You don't say what type of bait caster you have on the rod? If you are looking for one I can't say enough about the Abu Garcia 6500 I have on my Ugly Stik Cat Rod. That is a personal opinion, of course and I suppose we could argue back and forth the merits of reels till the last cat is caught. Anyway, all reels are manufactured to the same standards as every other reel these days all things considered. So once again it is a personal choice. So long as the reel is of good quality and has a large enough spool capacity it ought to last you for many years. My Abu Garcia 6500 has been fished for the past 15 years and still is as good as the day I bought it. I have put it on at least 3 rods since then too.

Thanks for the info Kes, could you ellaborate on which conditions you would use what rod for? I realize the glow'll wear off, but it's still a slightly slower action rod, so that's what I'm wondering about. And thank you for answering my question to my other thread I just posted, lol!
