Metro MDAA Banquet

Recommended Posts

Anyone going this Saturday?

Anyone been to it before? How late does the banquet run? I joined this year and haven't been to a banquet yet.

I'm going to try to be there. I might have to leave early too, but I want to at least check out the fish house that I'm going to win. Yeah right..... \:D\:D

The dinner is usually pretty good, lots of prizes to try and win with raffle tickets (you put your tickets towards the stuff you'd like to win), and they try to get done by 9:00pm or sooner. There are silent auction items like decoys and prints too. The grand prize fishhouse on wheels is drawn last but you don't have to be there to win. My wife and I won it last year so it actually does happen!

I will be there Huey.

It will be my first time there too.

We will look for ya.

I donated one of the spears I made this year to be given away as a prize.

My wife was wondering what is for dinner?

Hopefully you will let me spear with you one day next year, from your new spear house. lol

Actually I picked up a new house (an 8X8 portable, the 4X6 was a little too comfy for 2) but it is not even close to being as nice as that one!!!

If I win the big fish house at the banquet, I will bring steak instead of catfish to the next Get-to-Gator!!!

It sounds like Huey has it all wrapped up though, so all I can hope for is to get a spearing trip out of the deal. grin.gif

Well I just got back from the banquet and it was a really good time!! Really good food, more than I could eat!!! There were tons of prizes. My wife and her friend ended up with gift certificates from Applebee’s. They really packed the people in!! I was really impressed with the turnout. I didn't get to see Huey (or the orange cap) there but I did see some other familiar faces. I ended up sitting across from a guy who spears lakes within 15 miles of my house. So we may get to go out spearing next year. It is amazing to hear from so many within the org that are working so hard to maintain our rights to hunt, fish, spear and trap within Minnesota. I was really amazed at how many people drove their pickups in. lol I was one of the optimistic ones too, but I am sorry to say that there will be no steaks at the get to gator; someone else won the wheel house. Man that thing was nice!!! I tried for the auger but ended up short there too!!! The food and people were wonderful and it was well worth the trip. I big thanks to all the companies that donated prizes. Canvas Craft gave at least 2 nice portable houses, the wheel house from ice castle and there were a ton of other companies that gave things also. Hats off to all of them!!! I wish I had a list of all of them that donated and advertise here so we can give each and everyone of them a big kudos. I hope to make it to next year’s banquet.

So what was for supper?

I stopped by for a while btu couldn't stay for supper. I think I was there from 4:30 to 5 or so. There were a ton of good prizes. It was neat to check out some of decoys, spears, the wheel house, etc. It looked like was going to be a fun evening. Hopefully, I'll get to attend next year.

Even if you guys couldn't make the banquet you should think about joining the MN Darkhouse Assoc. It is cheap and all the money stays in the state to promote angling and spearing and to keep tabs on the proposed laws.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
