auger shutoff

Does anyone know how the shut off switches work on the augers? I have an old old eskimo (about 40yrs old) with a tecumseh power head. The shut off that used to be on it was a metal grounding strap that you would touch on the top of the spark plug to gound it out. I want to convert it to a switch. Anyone know were to connect the switch to??

Newer style motors that use a shutoff switch normally use the switch to ground the coil. If you look at the coil there should be a small wire on it (not the coil wire) that goes to the points. If you tap into that, then run the wire to the switch, then from the switch to ground it should work.

I took the power head apart, and found a tab that I can splip a female adater over, and works great. Thanks for the help. Since I had it apart, I decided to repaint the old thing. Looks like new now.
