Tonka crappies

Hydra Sport

Recommended Posts

I am going out on tonka tomorrow (Sunday) for the very 1st time.I have lived here all of my life and never got around to going to Tonka. Anyway does any body have some tips on where to go and such to bag a few crappies. Iam looking to make it fun for the kids but my old reliable spots are on northern lakes I don't have a clue where to start on Tonka. Any help would be good.

Best piece of advice would be to watch your electronics closely. Look for suspended fish and once you locate a group then drop a line and see if they are crappies. A lot of crappies will be holding off the first break right now out on Tonka, probably anywhere from 8-20 feet depending on the area of the lake. I would also look towards the mouths of the narrows running from bay to bay. Often times you can find crappies and gills stacked up in those areas right now too, but generally the majority of those fish are smaller in size. Look deeper right now, and don't even be afraid to jump out in the 30 or so feet of water. Tonka can sometimes be a mystery, but there are some nice crappies in that lake. So, take a cruise before you start fishing and look for fish on your electronics, then narrow things down once you've found a school...
