Which rod do i buy?

bmc

Question

I'm looking at buying a new rod for live bait rigging for walleyes. It's either gonna be the Berkley Lightning rod 6'6" the Gary Roach series or the Fenwick HMX 6'6". I'm torn right now, which one should I buy? These are the 2 rods that are in my price range. If anyone can think of another good rod in the $50 to $70 range let me know. I'm planning on using fireline for this rod also. Thanks again for any help.

I have two of the Roach signature rods and like them both very much. Mine are 6'2 and 6'6 -- the longer one gets a bit more use.

One place you might want to try is the Berkley Outlet in Spirit Lake, IA. It's been posted here before. Three weeks ago I picked up 2 HMX's for $18 each. Decent rods at a great price. The selection of rods that they had then included what you are looking for.
Plenty of Garcia reels also, you can walk into FFO with $100, and walk out with 3 Fenwick/Garcia combos without too much of a problem.

I would also consider the Galyan's brand rods. I believe that they IM7 version is $60 and the IM8 is $80. I have used the 7' ML IM8 rod for live bait riging and been very impressed.

I've heard that Gander Mountain also has a line of rods that are comparable in price and performance to the Galyan's.
