Good Starter Bow. Anyone know a good one?

Looks like you will be looking at a used bow. With all the new bows this year I think many people have upgraded. Might be a bit tougher in the $300.00 range but I'm sure there's one out there.

Bobby, without knowing your location it'll be hard for the hardcore bow guys here to direct you to a good bowhunting store. Where you at?

Since you're new to the sport, I would simply get recommendations on which bowhunting outlet in your area has the most helpful staff, and then I would go in and introduce yourself to those guys and tell them what you're after.

There are a lot of things to think about with the new bowhunter and matching your preferences and your physical characteristics to the bow. Draw length, draw strength, arrow weight, so many things to figure out. Most of those places offer used bow setups, as well, and you should be able to get a whole lot of useful advice from store staff, who realize that the more helpful they are and the better the advice they give you, the more you'll come back and do business with them.

At the right kind of store, you can walk in with a wallet and a goal and walk out a couple hours later with a used setup that's all tuned and fits you just right. That's what I did out in N.D. when I was just getting into bowhunting 15 years ago.

what do you guys think about Cabelas spitfire compound bow made by Parker bows?

Good bow fora starter. Parkers make a great bow to start and are tuned right at the factory for 20yrds. That will get you started.

I just bought one yesterday at the big C in Owatonna. Parker buckhunter, 50-60# and draw up to 31"(which was a factor for me, mines @ 31"). Check their archery ad. I'm a first timer @ 49 years old and the staff there was more than helpful & friendly. Helped me with form and let me shoot for about 30 Min with help and advice on each shot.

I would say a good starter bow would be any bow that is reasonably priced for you. If you're not sure you're going to like the sport or not, there is no sense in dropping $800 on a new Mathews or Bowtech. Look for something in your price range to get you started and well aquainted with the sport. If you decide after that you're into, you may want to upgrade to something better. For a cheap starter bow however, I don't really believe one is better than the other, as long as the bow fits you and does the job. Go to any archery shop and they should set you up with something that does the trick for what you want to pay.

this is going to be my first season bow hunting and i just got a brand new pse deer hunter for $280 and i love it .... magnum sports in chatfield has great staff they are very helpfull ... the guy who you8 will want to get hook up with is spike
