I posted this question under someone elses post but did not get a response so am making a new post... Am I correct in assuming this: I have a 5600 C4 on my stiffer (trolling) muskie pole and a 5500 C3 on my lighter action bucktail/spinnerbait pole. Gears on the 5600 are 6.3:1 and on the 5500 they are 5.3:1. Should I put the 5500 on my trolling rod and the higher gear 5600 on my casting rod??

8-Ball,

My advice: Do your casting with the 5500C3, troll with the 5600C4. The C3's lower gear ratio will seve you better as you fish a variety of baits--some of which are bound to have a lot of cranking resistance. Trolling, by definition, doesn't involve retrieving, so a higher gear ratio will trouble you less.

Both reels will work fine for trolling. The C4 works great for burning bucktails, spinnerbaits, and any other lure without a lot of resistance that you want to work FAST or slow. If you like using crankbaits or lures with big blades and lots of resistance go with the the C3. So it depends on what type of lures you use to most. I would put the C4 on the ligter rod and the C3 on the heavy rod.

FG- I seem to troll more w/ the bigger cranks-Believers, Jakes, Ernies, etc. than cast w/ spinners, topwaters, etc. I don't know why-maybe I have had better luck trolling the big stuff, I guess. Maybe I will switch them around and see how it goes. Thanks for the input and I will post results/info if I can ever get back out on the water. I can't believe it is August already. But, best 'ski fishing is right around the corner. You had any luck of late?
