circle hook channels?

hello everyone. i am new here but not new to fishing cats. anyway yesterday was first time i went after channels with circle hooks. i normally fish for flats. i have to admit it was fun watching the rod bend over but also frustrating. i had tons of bites and cot 5 channels had 2 get off near shore. i used cut sucker for bait. i was hopin for some pointers on using circle hooks for channels . i would like to try it again sometime.
