I've heard a couple stories this year. A snowmobile couldn't stop in time for a pressure ridge at night, and a guide on a four wheeler hit a pressure ridge and died of head injuries. There is no snow cover on may lakes and stopping is harder.

I'm from the Twin Cities. One happened in northern Wisconson the other on Mille Lacs. Both had homes near and were very familiar with the lakes they were on. One is a friend of a friend. The other my fishing buddy met a month ago, now he's gone. I don't know all the circumstances on the second story; and I hate to shoulda, woulda, coulda...anyone's family that lost so much. My point is, speed is a likely contributor, and that's worth mentioning.
