Another "Slob" Story

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I spoke with a relative of mine about deer hunting this weekend with them. Apparently over the first weekend there were some guys in a truck that had seen a deer standing next to a farm grove that they had permission to hunt, but they shot out the window of the vehicle at it when it was running only 100' or so from the house the landowner lived in. They had missed it, it of course took off running and they chased after it alongside the road and one of the guys in the truck was shooting out the window at it while it was running on other property they didn't have permission to hunt.

The farmer who owns the land these guys didn't have permission to hunt on was out working in the field, saw what was going on, hopped in his truck and chased these guys down. They didn't stop for him, but he got close enough to take their license plate numbers down. And the owner of the land they did have permission to hunt (where they first shot at the deer by the house) wasn't all too happy about what they did either.

Hopefully after the one farmer calls in their plates to the DNR they'll catch these guys, and hopefully something can be done about it. Not sure how that would work out with witnessing and all, but hopefully it's enough to take care of these guys.

Not only does it upset me what they did, but it's guys like this that can give the rest of us hunters a bad name and reputation. We've tried getting permission to hunt land in the past and the landowner was just livid about deer hunters due to a bad experience he had with some other guys...didn't give us permission to hunt. So, it does happen that "slobs" like this give the rest of us a bad reputation.

If I hear anything further about this, I'll let you guys know. Plus, I've got the TIP number programmed in my cell and I'll have my video cam along in case I see something myself.

Have a good safe weekend everyone!

Oh...and one more thing about this story....the farmer who chased these guys down is a good friend of my grandparents. He said these guys had one of the biggest 12-pointers in the back of their truck that he's ever seen. So this farmer was going to tell the DNR to keep an eye and ear open at the registration stations and the meat markets in the area in case people talk or they hear something about a big 12-pointer coming in.
