Dog bed

French Spaniel

Recommended Posts

Just thought that I would offer a little tip that has worked well for me. I have six hunting dogs and 4 kennel runs (indoor and outdoor). Have always been looking for something that would work well for dog beds.

Have experimented with different models from various companies. Most are for one dog per run. The best thing I found is a sled used to pull ice fishing equipment. I found mine for 30 some bucks at Fleet Farm and saw the same thng at Cabela's.

My outdoor runs are 10 x 5 and the indoor ones are 5 x 5. The bigger sled is just short of 5 feet and around 2 foot wide. The smaller ones are almost square. 3 feet by 2.5. Found them in the Fleet Farm cement areas. Were placed there for those who wanted to hand mix cement.

I also like the cedar wood chips better than the curly cedar strips because it stays in the sleds better. I have a couple larger and two smaller ones. The larger ones will easily fit two dogs. They work great.

You can also drill holes in the bottom runs of the sled to help any moisture drain out. Make sure you drill from the inside to outside. Hope this helps anyone who was in search of a stury dog bed. French Spaniel

This message is for French Spaniel. I'm assuming you are a French Brit owner? I just put down a deposit for a French Brit pup for later this winter. Just curious of your opinion of this dog? I did a lot of research before deciding on this breed. I actually do not hunt much anymore but this dog will have plenty of cabin/water time and get plenty of exercise otherwise. It will also be a house dog. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Ripper,

Actually we have French Spaniels which are different from French Brits. Brittany Spaniels actually came about from breeding of French Spaniels and Setters hundreds of years ago. The French Spaniels is a little larger than a Brit. They are more setter-like.

I actually haven't hunted with a French Brittany but I have heard many good comments on them. I'm sure you will enjoy your pup. Glad to see you are making a house dog out of him or her. I always think a dog listens better when they are a house dog. They tend to want to please you more.

If you want to see what French Spaniels look like go to (no unauthorized links) There are links on the side in the photo area that shows the dogs in various situations.

Thanks for the info. I did a google search and found a link that I think you must have meant? I read the "magazine article" and I'm guessing it was you the wrote it? Never heard of the breed before, but a great looking dog! Thanks!

Thanks, yep ... that was me who wrote the article. We just love the French Spaniel but I would never say they are better than other types of hunting dogs such as your Brit. Every hunter has a breed they like and will swear by. I guess ours is the French Spaniel. They have an easy personality and hunting style that a lot of folks like.
