Guest
What brand and pound test line is the best for channel cats and/or Flatheads?
Guest
I guess that would all depend on what type of reel and rod you are going to use and what the rod is rated for,or the reel.If your rod is a good sturdy cat rod load her up with some tuff stuff.Get a good quality reel to put that tuff line on.I have had cats tear up my cheaper gear before they break my line. You want to make sure the gear you have will handle the line you put on it.I have been using the super lines Fire Line,Fusion)and do like them. The thinner diameter cuts the current better and allows you to use less weight. One word of caution though,I think it best to protect your knot if you are using a slip sinker with a bead(rubber bobber stop is the best).I am a little put off by the Fusion line and will probably not use it any more.I have had this line break at the knot one too many times even with protection. For flatheads I like to use at 50 lb test but it is sometimes hard to come by.I have been ordering line through saltwater catalogs to get the lb test I want. This year I am going to spool up with PowerPro.I have used the smaller tests and like its performance. For channels I do not think you need much more than 14lb test unless you are fishing the Red where your cats are much bigger. bassman186
Well carpguy I have been hearing good things about PowerPro. A good fishin buddy of mine uses 50lb. He swears his life on this stuff. I haven't tried it yet, not really sure why though.
Mr Special
Go with 12/50 PowerPro and you'll be able to handle channels and flats. I also used Spiderwire original and Spiderwire sleath are good too.Good luck
