From speed's HSOforum:

"SPEED reporter Bob Dillner has a strong record of solid reporting from the NASCAR garage; so there is no rational reason for us to consider that the events and conversations he related to SPEED viewers are anything other than the truth," said Chris Long, SPEED Executive Producer for NASCAR programming.

Fox Sports just posted a story regarding this about 20 minutes ago too.

It has nothing to do with Dale or making sure that RCR wins the title regardless.

My theory:

They were caught but NASCAR doesn't want to make a fuss because of the bad publicity they'd receive because the team is #1 in the standings in both Busch and Cup. How would it look if your #1 guy is/has been bending the rules to win and how that would affect the credibility of NASCAR? Look at MLB and the growth hormones, etc and what that's done to baseball. If this is indeed the case that they have been working the gray area and it was early in the season, there would have been warnings, statements given, confiscation of parts, etc. Too late in the season to let that out now. Sweep it under the rug and move on and quietly telling RCR to knock it off.

The other thing I was thinking about was that someone from RCR did leak, pun intended, that they were doing this and another team found out. To not look like a tattle-tale they tipped off Dilner to report it. NASCAR checked the wheels, found out that they were worked on, but then swept it under the rug to avoid the bad PR.

Maybe someone made the story up and tipped off Dilner so that it would get reported, just to shake up RCR and try to throw them off for a while since they've been so hot. I find this theory less likely, but another thought.

Seems odd that Dilner would just make this up out of thin air.

I read today that Harvick believes he was set up by another team and also claims to know who it is but won't say.

I'm going to wager a guess that in the next week or so the person who gets spun hard when Harvick is in the area was the bad guy!

Mikey is probably just worrying about sabotaging those field fillers like Chad Chaffin and Morgan Shepard who keep qualifying and keeping him out of races, why would he even be worrying about the leaders when those guys are his real competition... Look out Ted Christopher, I saw Mikey eyeing your ride the other day... laugh.gif
