0 Fishin4Life
On the older motors as well as new, (i think), don't have an alternator per say. They ahve whats called a recitifer **spell?** Which helps to keep the charge up in the battery. But does not charge as well as an auto alternator. I beleive this is the way motorcycles work also...I am no expert by any means, I am sure someone will chime in with the exact answer...Mine could be way wrong... 0 marine_man
Fishin4Life hit the nail on the head... it very likely has a rectifier that will charge your battery at high idle, but I wouldn't try and charge your trolling motor batteries off it or anything like that...marine_man
0 Finlander
Thanx for the info! I'll do like I always do, put the charger on the battery after every use!
0 ScottND
The 70's 70hp Evinrudes will produce about 1-2 amps to the battery. (about enough to charge your cell phone ) The rectifier is used to change the AC current that is produced to DC. In comparison my 2001 80 hp Yamaha puts out about 20 amps.
